What To Watch: Netflix & Hulu

January is probably the most blah month of the year. It`s cold and dreary and you are still broke from Christmas. This is probably when my streaming accounts get the most use.

50 First Dates • Maid In Manhattan • Nerve • Air Bud • It Takes Two • Harriet The Spy • The Parent Trap • Stay Alive

Honorable Mentions

Unfortunately these shows are no longer on Netflix or Hulu. Which I am really sad/mad about because they are such great shows. I still wanted to mention them because they are so amazing and if you can find them anywhere else you definitely need to check them out.

One Tree Hill • Friday Night Lights • Greek

I hope you are able to find a new series to start from this and I would love to hear some of your favorite TV Series or movies!

Target had a sale, haul + mini review

Target Haul

Every time I go to Target I go in with the intention of getting a couple things. These couple items I need leads to an hour to an hour and a half of looking at every single section. Even if I was there a couple days ago, I still have to look at every single section.

I went to Target yesterday and had to make a stop by the makeup section, of course. I noticed a couple clearance stickers on a few items and an employee told me that over 300 items were marked down due to packaging changes with products. So of course I had to go down every section and look up and down every shelf. At that moment my boyfriend wished he would have stayed home. Sorry AJ.

I contained myself and only got 7 items, unfortunately all the foundations on sale were already sold out of my shade. I also included a mini review/first impression of each item.

L`Oreal Voluminous Feline Noir in Blackest

Voluminous Feline

Was: $7.99 Now: $5.58

L`Oreal kills the game when it comes to mascara. L`Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara and the Voluminous Original Mascara are two of my favorite that I use on a daily basis.

From the packaging….

Now with more intense black pigments for our most ferocious black. Our first mascara for instant volume with ferocious full lash density. Lashes are so powerful, so captivating, so feline. The quick-charge brush captures each lash to deliver fullness and immediate volume. The quick-charge ultra glossy black formula provides a feline-volume in one coat and shiny smooth lashes. Does not smudge and is easily removed.

My thoughts….

It took me several coats to get my eyelash to look the way I wanted to but once I got it there it looks pretty good on both my upper and lower lashes. It just seems like there isn`t much product in the tube so the wand feels very dry when applying. This mascara created more volume than length. I will definitely finish this tube but will stick with my other L`Oreal favorites.

Rimmel London Shake It Fresh in Very Black

Shake It Fresh

Was: $5.99 Now: $4.18

From the Packaging….

First-to-market Shaker system inside the mascara, refreshes the formula when needed to help prevent it from drying out. Ultra-smooth, clump-free, volume from first to last use. The Volume Defining brush gives you a beautiful fan of lashes with maximum separation from corner to corner.

My thoughts….

This tube is heavy! But the shaking technology is pretty fun, even though they recommend only shaking when needed. It was very wet, so I immediately got a giant glob of mascara on my cheek. When you are in a hurry and already have your foundation done, this will ruin your day. I feel like it made my eyelashes look like spider legs, not very voluminous but pretty lengthening. I can see myself mixing it with another mascara for the length, but I did not like how it looked on my lower lashes.

Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint in Stripped Down

Was: $7.99 Now: $3.98

From the website….

Amp up the intensity with 8x more pigment in every drop. Maybelline`s vibrant lip paint glides on to deliver a jolt of intense color.

My thoughts….

I am pretty sure they changed the formula or colors of this product because when I went on Maybelline`s website, Stripped Down looked way more purple and mine looks like a pinky nude. The color is intense but it fades pretty fast. Plus the tube is super small so I feel like I will run out of this quickly. Not mad with the sale price, but I do not think I would buy this at full price.

Sonia Kashuk Tools No. 32 Synthetic Concealer Brush

Was: $10.99 Now: $5.48

From the packaging….

Pointed tip and added width make this synthetic brush perfect for under-eye concealing and covering blemishes.

My thoughts….

The packaging for both this brush and the Angled Crease Brush is so nice. They both came in a hard case, which seemed a little more luxurious. I didn`t like this brush for concealing my whole under eye, it made it very time consuming for me. It was very nice for getting close up in the corner of my eye, fixing foundation around my nose, and for concealing my eye for eye shadow. I recommend having a brush like this in your collection.

Sonia Kashuk Tool No. 26 Angled Crease Brush

Was: $10.99 Now: $5.48

From the packaging….

Fits effortlessly into the crease of the eye; great for creating depth.

My thoughts….

Not a huge fan of this yet. I am not sure I`ve used a brush like this so I want to play with it more. It does pack the color on.

Sonia Kashuk Nº 106 Small Eye Shadow Brush

Was: $4.99 Now: $2.48

From the packaging….

Natural and synthetic hair. The perfect brush for a more controlled eye shadow application.

My thoughts….

I really like this brush for packing color onto the lid. I agree with this being the perfect brush for a controlled eye shadow application.

Sonia Kashuk Tools No. 09 Blending Sponge

SK Beauty Sponge

Was: $7.99 Now: $3.98

From the packaging….

The perfect sponge to access hard to reach areas- apply, blend. Smudge and pat your way to perfection.

My thoughts….

The sponge was the perfect amount of dense and squishy. I tried it both dry and wet. I use my favorite sponge from Real Techniques dry, because it gives you more coverage, so I wanted to see how this sponge is dry. It gave more coverage when wet, but not a crazy difference. When I got the sponge wet, it did not expand like most, maybe this is a sign it won`t hold a lot of product. The side applied with the wet side looked more natural. Super happy with the price, even worth it at full price.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being I go there 5 times a week, how much do you love target?

The best gift ever for beauty lovers!

Beauty subscription boxes.

Christmas may be over, but birthdays are upon us. If you are reading this you probably love makeup just as much as me, know someone who loves makeup, or just want to learn more about different products, but don`t want to break the bank.

For Christmas, my boyfriend`s parents gifted me 6 months of Birchbox and I am so excited. I have wanted to subscribe to a beauty subscription box and just have never done it for myself.

For only $10 a month you can get 5 beauty samples sent right to your door. Once you sign up you fill out your “beauty profile” where you describe your skin, hair, and personal style. Filling out your “beauty profile” allows Birchbox to send personalized items to fit your specific concerns and needs so you will actually want to use the products!

A Glimpse Into My First Box

Since Birchbox was given to me as a gift, my first box was full of their best-selling products.

Beauty Protector

Beauty Protector Protect and Condition– This conditioner does more than just condition. Pearl powder (and other ingredients) protect hair against damage from heat styling and environmental aggressors.

Beauty Protector Protect and Shampoo- Like the conditioner, is made with pearl powder and protects against heat styling. Bonus: after you suds up, its amazing smell lingers on your locks.

My thoughts….

The first thing I noticed was the smell, there really wasn`t one. I was expecting an amazing scent to hit me the moment I put the shampoo in my hair. I mean they hyped up this amazing smell that was going to linger on my locks, but the shampoo and conditioner really had no scent. I think it is really hard to judge a shampoo and conditioner after one use, I just know I wasn`t wowed. I still have a couple more uses from my samples, so maybe it will grow on me.

Jane Iredale

jane iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Pink- Swipe on this multipurpose stain for a pretty pink flush on your lips and cheeks. Bonus: the nourishing olive and avocado oils in the formula help to soften and soothe.

My thoughts….

I love how this product made my lips feel nourished thanks to the olive and avocado oils. I wasn`t a fan of the color, it seemed more like a chap stick because of how light it is. I would love to see what other colors are available!

LAQA & Co. B`Lighter in Peacher`s Daughter- Part highlighter, part blush, this formula catches the light for a lit-from-within glow.

My thoughts….

First impression, fail. I admit, I don`t use cream blushes or highlighters like ever, so I haven`t worked with them much, but I did not like this product. It broke up my foundation where I applied it. Not too many people agreed with me in the reviews of this product on Birchbox, so if you like cream blushes and highlighters it might be worth a try!

Most Excited For

Whish Botanical Primer- Prep your complexion with this primer that balances, moisturizes, and protects thanks to blends of Japanese honeysuckle, organic safflower seed oil, and seabuckthorn extract.

My thoughts….

As soon as I saw this Whish primer, I was excited to try it. I love trying out new primers. This product did not disappoint. Due to the extremely cold weather, seriously it has been in the negatives, my skin has been pretty dry and this primer promises to prevent flaky and caky foundation. I used this with the $20 Drugstore Foundation, which clung to my dry patches, and with this primer underneath made the foundation look really good. I would definitely purchase a full size. For the same price as other high-end primers you receive 2 oz. for $35 as opposed to 1 oz or less. This is a Birchbox Exclusive, so you can only purchase this on their website.

I highly recommend gifting this to someone, even yourself, if you love trying out new beauty products. I cannot wait to see what my other boxes have in store!

Have you ever tried Birchbox?

$20 drugstore foundation!?

You read that right. A $20 foundation from the DRUGSTORE! This cannot be considered affordable.

Before you call me crazy, I did not spend $20 on this foundation. Thanks to my CVS ExtraCare card, I had a 40% off coupon that I applied to the purchase. This foundation went from $18.29 to $10.97. I think I can handle that. This Foundation just stuck out to me while looking for new makeup. Not only is the packaging different than most foundations, short, fat tub with a sponge on top, but it claims an insta-filter right there on the packaging. Yes please!

From Revlon`s Website:

“Our newest flawless-finish foundation with built in blender so you have a perfected makeup look anytime, anywhere.”

Our innovative formula works with your skin type and evens and smooths your skin tone, to leave you with a  fresh faced, natural finish.”

“Full range of high definition shades.”

-“Medium, buildable coverage

-All day wear

-High-Definition Filter technology captures and transforms any light to blur and soften flaws

Who is not sold on the description and features of this foundation!? I think we all love a flawless finish and blurred flaws.

I don`t agree with the “full range of high definition shades.” 12 shades doesn`t qualify a full range. The colors basically go from really fair (me), to kinda fair, to tan, to dark.

First Impression

I was fully prepared to be blown away by this foundation. I wasn’t. For a $20 foundation from the drugstore I wanna be wowed. This foundation fell flat. It doesn’t even have a whole fluid oz of product, only 0.91.

To use you are supposed to shake the bottle and twist the bottom to get the foundation out. It took awhile to get any product out. I am also not a huge fan of the sponge, I think it was a good concept but I prefer a pump or even the little spatula the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation has. Plus, once you use it you are going to have this dirty foundation filled sponge just sitting there.

I tried applying it with both a brush, I used the Morphe M439, and the Real Techniques sponge. I surprisingly liked it better with a brush, I usually prefer a sponge. I also felt like I had to use a lot of product just to get a fair amount of coverage from this foundation.

Since I am pretty fair, I got 110 Ivory and it matches my skin pretty well. The foundation hasn`t oxidized and hasn`t broken up. Thankfully! I have pretty oily skin, but since it is winter and the air is drier, I am getting patches of dry skin. I immediately noticed the foundation clung to my dry patches, not a cute look. So if you have pretty dry skin I don`t think you will like this foundation.

My overall first impression of this foundation, is I wouldn`t recommend it. I especially wouldn`t pay full price for it. If you want to give it a try and see what you think, definitely find a coupon for it. I am going to keep trying it and see how it wears throughout the day. I have tried foundations before that I didn`t immediately like and now they are some of my favorites, so there is still hope.

If you are looking for a good, affordable drugstore foundation check out my post about my Current Go-To Affordable Foundation.

I would love to know your thoughts if you have tried this foundation!

Current Go-To Affordable Foundation

I am all about finding affordable and amazing products at the drugstore. The drugstore is really stepping up their game and making their products quality while not breaking the bank. My favorite places to shop for affordable makeup are Target, CVS, or Walgreen’s. I have recently fell in love with the Better Skin Foundation from Maybelline. I am in the lightest shade, porcelain, and it matches me perfectly…..we will blame it on winter.

FullSizeR (1)

I first heard of this foundation while watching one of Casey Holmes drugstore videos on YouTube. Casey has rosacea, which is a condition that causes redness and often small bumps on the face. Because of this Casey is all about full coverage foundation or no foundation at all. My skin is definitely an insecurity of mine, so I am always on the hunt  for full coverage foundations as well. When Casey says a foundation is full coverage and she highly recommends it, I believe her and have to try it myself. I can`t tell you how many products I have bought because she recommended them. So of course I had to try this foundation. When I first tried this foundation I was not at all impressed, it didn`t seem that full coverage to me, so I was a little disappointed and didn`t try it again. Very recently I was looking through all my foundations and found this one again and thought I would give it another shot. I have been wearing it ever since! It has quickly became my go-to, everyday foundation these past couple of months. You really don`t need a ton of product, they have 16 shades to choose from, it looks flawless, and it is only $11.99!

From Maybelline`s Website:

Maybelline`s oil-free, skin-transforming foundation features ACTYL-C and broad-spectrum titanium dioxide sunscreen SPF 15 that helps to achieve better looking skin in just three weeks. Our fade-proof formula won`t transfer and looks just applied all day.”

I can`t say I achieved better looking skin in three weeks like the product claims, but I am not a good judge of this, it takes a lot to please my skin. I fully agree with the “Our fade-proof formula won`t transfer and looks just applied all day” claim. It never feels sticky, and is dry to the touch. The color doesn`t oxidize and the foundation does not break up either.

Overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a full coverage affordable foundation!

Stocking Stuffer Ideas

Is it just me or are stockings one of your favorite things on Christmas morning? I love small little presents that end up being the most surprising and fun. In my house your stocking is always the first thing you open and usually contains the most funny and useful items. Like that one year my parents got me a giant key chain, seriously this thing was huge, because I kept losing my keys that year. Or a new toothbrush or shampoo and conditioner. The older I get the more I appreciate the items like these, maybe not the giant key chain, but the practical stuff that I absolutely hate buying for myself. Your stocking doesn’t always have to be full of practical items though. That is why I have compiled a list of some stocking stuffers that I would be excited to receive or am already loving, and I am sure the women in your family would enjoy too!

Real Techniques 4 Miracle Complexion Sponges–$17.99

This is my absolute favorite way to apply my foundation. It leaves my foundation smooth and streak free. You can use wet for a dewy glow or dry for a full coverage look. I prefer to use it dry. It does hold product, so you definitely need to keep up with cleaning it, especially if you use a lot of product. Four for less than $20 is too good of a deal and I highly recommend picking this up.

Another Real Techniques product I wanted to mention, because I just recently saw this and thought it was genius, the Miracle Complexion Sponge + Travel Sponge Case. This is perfect for traveling with your makeup and keeping your sponge, and everything else, clean. ($6.99)

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater (4 fl oz)–$7.00

Guys, I love this product! It is so refreshing, perfect for using over makeup to give you a dewy look or on bare skin, which is my personal favorite. Rosewater is known to have ant-inflammatory properties to help reduce redness and get rid of acne. I personally struggle with acne, and after using this product I definitely noticed a difference in my skin.  My face didn’t seem as red and my acne seemed less inflamed. My bottle has lasted several months!

 Wet Original Brush–$8.99

I got this brush in my stocking last year and loved it. This brush is meant to detangle wet or dry hair. I am very tender headed, having my hair brushed was my least favorite thing as a child, but this brush glides through your hair taking the tangles out as it goes. Not only does it come in several cute colors but it is also available in fun prints as well!

Batiste Dry Shampoo–$7.99

This is one of my favorite dry shampoos ever. It is affordable and comes in a ton of different scents. Perfect for when you are going on day two or three hair.

Makeup removing wipes–$5.99

One of my favorite makeup removing wipes are the Yes to tomatoes detoxifying charcoal makeup wipes. These are designed for individuals with acne-prone skin, which is something I suffer with. These wipes are formulated with charcoal to help remove dirt and impurities, plus the black wipe is pretty cool. This item is super practical for anyone who wears makeup.

Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick–$4.99

I love these liquid matte lipsticks! They come in several fun and neutral colors for an affordable price. They are the perfect size to drop in any makeup lovers stocking.

Kate Spade Thermal Mugs and Tumblers–$18.00-$25.00

Give me anything Kate Spade! Not only are here purses to die for but the tumblers and coffee mugs are just as cute. Perfect for the working woman in your life who have to take their coffee to go.

Aloe Moisture Aloe Socks–$8.00

I am pretty sure I tried socks like these from Bath and Body Works in one of their Christmas gift sets. Fuzzy socks are already amazing but add lotion. These socks from Aloe Moisture are infused with aloe vera to moisturize your skin and are super comfy.

Fairy Lights–$5.99

Random, but who doesn`t love fairy lights? They are super cute to decorate pretty much anything with!

Monogrammed Key Chain–$7.00+

How cute are these monogrammed key chains from Sweet Stylings on Etsy!? These key chains come in a TON of different colors, plus she has a bunch of different styles to choose from.

Gift Cards

Gift cards are not just for cards. Perfect to throw in anyone`s stocking. Give them a gift card to the movies, their favorite boutique or Starbucks! For family members or friends that are in college, get them a gift card for a local restaurant so they can grab lunch or dinner in between classes.

What is the funniest or most practical gift you have ever received in your stocking?

Thanks for reading!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! I have been going back and forth with myself for seriously over a year on whether or not I should start a blog. I became interested in the beauty community when I was a probably a freshman in high school. I would watch videos here and there, Juicystar07, a.k.a Blair Fowler, was the first ever beauty guru I ever watched. Now my love for all things beauty and fashion has grown into an obsession. I am pretty sure I watch more YouTube videos than Netflix. With all these AMAZING influencers already out there, and killing the game, I thought my opinions or thoughts would be insignificant (and maybe they will be). But since graduating college in the summer and my job hitting the slow season, I have found I have a lot of free time on my hands and really need a hobby (I am also teaching myself Calligraphy). So here I am writing my first blog post. You can expect a new post from me every Sunday on everything from beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. I hope you enjoy my first post!
